There are two kinds of photographs:
Grab Shots are the ones you get because you happen to have your camera in your hand when something photogenic happens nearby.
Set Shots are the ones where you control the situation. Lighting, composition and timing are all (more or less) under the photographer's control.
Most photographs of the moon are grab shots. Even Ansel Adams' famous Moonrise, Hernandez N.M. was a grab shot. This site is intended as a tool to help you change your photographs of the moon from grab shots to set shots.
